Notice of Service Termination

Since 1991, TV JAPAN has provided a 24/7 Japanese-language channel to our viewers across the United States and Canada. We have been honored to serve the community delivering a diverse array of programming to you, via Cable and Satellite.

However, as with any industry, we must adapt to the evolving needs and preferences of our audience. In recent times, we have observed a significant shift in viewing habits with a growing demand for convenient access to Japanese programs through internet streaming platforms.

In response to these changing dynamics, we have made the difficult decision to terminate TV JAPAN but are excited to introduce a new streaming service, “Jme.”

With Jme, you can continue to enjoy your favorite Japanese programs from the comfort of your home or on the go, as long as you have internet access.  Whether it’s NHK news, the Grand Sumo, Taiga drama, or popular current dramas from commercial broadcasters, Jme promises to deliver the same high-quality content you’ve come to expect from TV JAPAN.

To access Jme, simply register yourself on our platform. As a token of our appreciation for your continued support, we are offering a complimentary 30-day free trial of Jme to all new subscribers until April 30.   For further details, please visit watch.jme.tv.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to our loyal viewers. While we bid farewell to TV JAPAN, we hope you take this opportunity to join us on our next chapter with our new service, Jme.

  • Q. Why did TV JAPAN end its broadcast?
In US and Canada, the number of cable and satellite broadcasting subscriptions has been rapidly decreasing. As TV JAPAN is primarily viewed through cable and satellite broadcasting, the number of TV JAPAN subscribers is also experiencing a similar decline. On the other hand, in recent years, we have received numerous inquiries asking, "Can't it be viewed over the internet?" Taking such a situation into consideration, we have decided to discontinue TV JAPAN and transition to Jme, where you can watch it via the internet.
  • Q. Is there an alternative service to TV Japan?
Instead of TV JAPAN, a new streaming service called Jme was launched on March 20. This service is available for watching over the internet. Please register through the Jme website at www.jme.tv. *If you register on the Jme website by April 30th, the first 30 days of viewing will be free.
  • Q. I forgot to cancel TV JAPAN. Do I need to cancel TV JAPAN?
There is no need to cancel TV JAPAN, but please check yourself to make sure you have not been billed by Cable TV or Satellite TV for April or later.
  • Q. I have already paid for TV Japan's March-April viewing fees. Can I get a refund?
We do not have any information on the subscription fee between you and cable or satellite company for March-April. Please check with your service provider.
  • Q. Are TV Japan and NipponTV on DirecTV the same ?
Nippon TV airs different programs from TV JAPAN. You cannot watch programs that were broadcast on TV JAPAN on Nippon TV. To view programs that were broadcast on TV JAPAN, please register for Jme.
